Gourdin allied family papers, 1707-1903.

Papers consist of correspondence, estate records, plats, land grants, legal documents, financial records, and other items. Included are the papers of Theodore Gourdin (1764-1826), Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926), and Esther Gourdin Holbrook (1791-1882). Papers (1784-1825) of Theodore Gourdin consist of correspondence, receipts, plats, and other documents concerning Gourdin family properties in Berkeley, Charleston, Clarendon, Georgetown, Orangeburg, Sumter, and Williamsburg counties. Much material concerns lands belonging to the estate of Joseph Willingham. Correspondents include Edward Rutledge and Peter Gaillard. Properties include Skrine's Ferry, and Red Clay and Walnut Grove plantations. Papers of Samuel Gaillard Stoney (1853-1926) consist of correspondence, accounts, receipts, contracts, plats, and other items chiefly pertaining to the estate of Theodore Louis Gourdin (1790-1866). Letters of administration (1887) name Stoney as administrator of the estate after the death of former administrator W.G. DeSaussure. Much of the estate material concerns disputes over title to Gourdin's properties in Berkeley, Williamsburg, and Georgetown counties. Papers (1829-1881) of Esther Gourdin Holbrook (1791-1882) consist of a marriage settlement, indentures, slave bills of sale, bonds, accounts, receipts, a power of attorney, correspondence, and other items. Much of the correspondence deals with family financial matters, Esther G. Holbrook's health, and the settling of her affairs. Correspondents include her brothers Theodore L. Gourdin and Robert M. Gourdin.
